Mercer County (9-6) went 2-0 in pool play at the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic in Prophetstown Tuesday to advance to the semifinals Friday.
In the first game of the day, the Golden Eagles crushed Fulton (1-8), 55-12. Molly Hofmann poured in 25 points in the victory for Mercer County.
Later in the day, Mercer County held on to beat Erie-Prophetstown (5-8), 50-47. The Golden Eagles led 35-22 at halftime after trailing 14-8 at the end of the the first quarter. Mercer County led by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter before the Panthers cut the deficit to just two points in the final minute. Sydney Lamkin scored 21 points for the Golden Eagles in the win. Maddie Hofmann and Hallie Schreurs both added 10 points for Mercer County. Kennedy Buck led Erie-Prophetstown with 18 points.
