Two Mercer County High School seniors were among over thirty area students that participated on State Senator Chuck Weaver’s Youth Advisory Council. Dalton Line says it was a worthwhile experience.
Stevie Engle also participated on the council. The two were in Springfield on Wednesday with a total of 35 students from 21 schools. The council took over a committee room to carry out a mock hearing on legislation that they proposed during their fall meeting. Students took on the roles of lawmakers, lobbyists, concerned citizens, and reporters in the process. After a heated debate, heavy lobbying, and a lot of discussion, the students voted not to advance their proposal to change the state’s process for drawing legislative districts.
