A Mercer County High School senior has been recognized by winning a citizenship award.
Elsie Cook was named the Rebecca Parke Chapter winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award. Cook won the honor over nominees from four other local high schools.
The award is meant to go to a student who best demonstrates the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
Cook spoke to WRMJ about receiving the award.
The process for being selected included writing an essay on citizenship and turning in a resume.
Cook finished runner-up in the district competition, which featured 10 DAR chapters.
