In the latest segment of Focus, Mayor Chris Hagloch spoke about snow routes, side-by-side regulations, and new state building codes.
Snow Routes
The mayor took a moment to remind residents of snow routes, explaining that snow routes are activated when two inches or more of snow accumulate. “If you live or travel on a snow route, make sure vehicles are moved off the streets so plows can get through,” Hagloch said, emphasizing the importance of keeping roads clear during snowy conditions.
Side-by-Side Sticker Reminder
With the mild winter weather, Hagloch also reminded residents about the importance of obtaining annual stickers for side-by-sides and off-road vehicles. The stickers, which cost $50 and are valid for the entire year, are required after January 1. Hagloch mentioned that while many people wait until spring, those with all-terrain vehicles often use them year-round and need to stay compliant. He also noted that the city has added new routes, including one that connects to Walmart, making it easier for side-by-side owners to get around town.
New Building Code Laws
A significant change that took effect this year is the state-mandated building code law. The law requires all municipalities, regardless of size, to follow a minimum construction standard starting January 1. Mayor Hagloch clarified that while the new law doesn’t force communities to adopt new codes if they don’t already have them, those with existing building codes, like Aledo, must follow those codes or the state’s minimum standard.
“We’ve had building codes since 2006,” the mayor explained. “We just follow whichever has the highest minimum standard.”
