A burial will take place after the funeral in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be left to St. Catherine’s Church.

Lois was born in Matherville, IL, on September 15, 1931, to parents, George and Luella (Raisbeck) Basala. Lois had seven brothers. She attended Sherrard High School her freshman year, then spent a year at Heading Convent in Peoria, IL. She returned home to complete her high school years at Sherrard, where her pretty little eyes found a jock, Deane Frye. She graduated as a transfer salutatorian in 1949. On July 15, 1950, the two were married at St. Catherine’s Church and later celebrated 69 years together.

Deane and Lois dedicated their lives to raising a family and to construction. Lois was a kind, gentle, generous, thoughtful soul. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her favorite times were with family. Lois was also devoted to her faith and prayer. She was the catalyst of faith in her sons’ lives and for the future generations within her family. She helped with the family construction company, Deane Frye, Inc., as a secretary and bookkeeper.

Deane and Lois were loyal supporters of their children and grandchildren through many extracurricular events and seasons of life. Lois especially loved her grandchildren and got to love 21 great-grandchildren, holding two of them in the final weeks of her life. It brought Lois great joy to be in the midst of family, whether it was going to church or hosting a holiday meal or watching 60 Minutes together. She enjoyed attending ball games of all kinds, traveling, baking pies, playing cards and Mexican Train, sending cards, and watching the Cardinals and Cubs.

Those left to cherish Lois’s memory include her three sons and their wives, Michael and Sally Frye of Aledo, Dana and Paula Frye of Bettendorf, and Jeffrey Frye of Muscatine; grandchildren and spouses, Traci and Rich Maynard of Muscatine, Todd and Tiffany Frye of Clive, IA, Annie and Chris Thomas of Bettendorf, Andy and Jess Frye of Bettendorf, Zack and Kodi Frye of Muscatine, Nicole and Mike Hogan of Bettendorf, and Jessica and Tom Roe of Chicago; 21 great-grandchildren; and brothers Gene and Darlene Basala of Mesa, AZ, and Dennis and Reeda Basala of Moline. Lois joins her parents; husband; great-granddaughter, Erika Kate Maynard; and brothers, Robert, Donald, Marlyn, John, and David Basala who have passed before her.

We are so thankful for her full blessed earthly life and celebrate her eternal life with the Lord. Her spirit and legacy of love and faith live on through her family as they carry her close in their hearts always. The family would especially like to thank Lutheran Living staff and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice team for their compassionate care.
