A local state representative is introducing legislation that urges the State Fire Marshal and local fire departments to replace the current foams they use in fighting fires with the non-carcinogenic, non-toxic, environmentally friendly SoyFoam.
State Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) is sponsoring House Resolution 0748.
Often referred to as “forever chemicals”, Swanson says traditional firefighting foams pose environmental and health risks because they are resistant to breaking down in the environment and are now directly linked to increased health issues, including cancer.
SoyFoam uses the meal component of the soybean and meets performance needs while eliminating the environmental, health, and safety concerns. According to Swanson, SoyFoam is already being used by fire departments across the Midwest.
