Lincoln’s Mercer County Connections

Celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s birthday today (Monday) and also his connection to Mercer County. On Sept. 30 in 1834, Lincoln the land surveyor finished surveying and platting New Boston. Christian McWhirter is a Lincoln Historian with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.

Lincoln was also in Mercer County at the onset of the Black Hawk War in 1832, serving as a company captain of the Illinois Militia.
