Republican businessman Mark Kleine has withdrawn from the 17th District congressional race. The Galesburg resident submitted his withdrawal Tuesday, but will remain on the March 20 primary ballot, missing the January 11 deadline to remove his name. Kleine sent a letter to Republican county committee chairs saying he has dissolved his campaign staff and will refund all campaign contributions. Mr. Kleine’s withdrawal leaves author and real estate broker, Bill Fawell, 63, of Galena, to contest Representative Cheri Bustos in the November general election.
