Traffic fatalities are down in 2019 in Illinois and Mercer County is contributing to the decline. Statewide, there have been 970 traffic fatalities this year and none in Mercer County. Last year, there were 1,031 traffic fatalities in Illinois says Guy Tridgell with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Tridgell reminds that state and local police have beefed up enforcement through the New Year’s holiday, and holding special details and roadside safety checks.
