Illinois City Man Still In Custody In 2017 & 2018 DUI Cases; Bond Remains at $500,000

An Illinois City man has been in custody for almost two years awaiting trial in Rock Island and Mercer counties on DUI charges. Today, 47 year old William Gorham was transported from the Rock Island County Jail to Mercer County for a court appearance, but his attorney—Jack Schwartz, was a no show. The court then assessed the cost of prisoner transport to Schwartz. A new pre-trial conference has been scheduled for February 4th in Mercer County Circuit Court. Gorham faces a Class 1 felony DUI charge in Mercer County stemming from a December of 2017 arrest. He would bond out in that case but was arrested a few weeks later in Rock Island County on another Class 1 felony DUI charge. He has been in custody at the Rock Island County Jail on $500,000 bond since January 31st of 2018.   Mercer County State’s Attorney Meeghan Lee had indicated previously that Gorham has four prior DUI’s on his record. He is also facing a Class 3 felony of possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID card and a Class 4 felony of driving while license revoked in Mercer County. He remains in custody at the Rock Island County Jail. His next appearance in the Rock Island County DUI case is January 3rd.
