Former Sherrard School Bus Driver Pleads Guilty To Reckless Driving In March Accident

A former Sherrard school bus driver has pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor of reckless driving in connection with an accident last year. 34 year old Dustin Leath of New Windsor was placed on 12-months court supervision and fined $900 plus court costs—including $750 for a DUI equipment fee and $500 for Mercer County Crime Stoppers.  Leath was originally charged with a Class 4 felony of DUI—accusing him of being under the influence of drugs and crashing into a tree along Illinois Route 17 last March. That count was dismissed today in Mercer County Circuit Court as part of his guilty plea. One student was on the bus and suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident. Sherrard superintendent Alan Boucher tells WRMJ that Leath was a long-term sub for Sherrard and no longer drives for the district.
