The former treasurer of the Matherville Fire Department has pleaded guilty to a Class 1 felony theft charge. The negotiated plea was entered today in Mercer County Circuit Court for 29 year old Stephanie Nass. She has been ordered to pay $14,885 in restitution. Nass was also placed on 24-months’ probation and sentenced to 180 days in the Mercer County Jail, but will serve only ten days with the balance stayed as long as she stays in strict compliance with the sentencing guidelines. Nass has also been assessed a $300 fine plus a $500 Mercer County Crime Stopper fee. Also as part of the sentencing agreement, Nass cannot wear any apparel related to the Matherville Fire Department. She was charged with the Class 1 felony last September, accusing her of “knowingly obtaining by deception, control over property of the Matherville Fire Department, being cash, having a total value in excess of $10,000, but less than $100,000”. The theft occurred between May of 2018 and August of 2019.
