Eagles Drop Season Opener

Mercer County’s shaky defense lead the way as they fell to Bushnell-Prairie City 17-9 in the baseball season opener Thursday at Northside Park.  The Spartans opened the scoring with 2 in the top of the first.  The Golden Eagles then took the lead scoring all of their 9 runs in the second.  BPC then retook the lead with 3 in the third and put the game away with 8 in the fifth.  Mercer County committed six errors in the contest.as only 8 of the Spartans runs were earned on the day.  Freshman Carson Boelens took the loss in relief.  Offensively the Golden Eagles had 12 strike outs.  Jude Hoffman had two hits while Kellen King knocked in 3.

Pekin beat Rockridge 13-8 in a game called in the bottom of the sixth due to darkness.  No other details are known at this time.

In softball, Annawan blanked Fulton 11-0 in five innings.

On the pitch, Alleman topped Orion-Sherrard 6-2.
