Donna DeToy, 89 of Sherrard, died Sunday, November 19, 2023, lovingly surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, at the Preemption United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sherrard Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Holdsworth Family for a memorial to be established later.
Donna Mae was born on November 16, 1934, in Moline, Illinois, to Axell and Martha (Thomas) Craft. Enjoying life was important to Donna. She had a servant’s heart and was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends. She made work fun, finding joy and fulfillment in whatever task she did. Donna loved exhibiting flowers, vegetables, and crafts at county fairs and the New Windsor Fair & Rodeo. She enjoyed helping her children and later her grandchildren with 4-H projects and preparing for competitions, including barrel racing and animal shows. She loved raising animals including chickens, horses, rabbits, and dogs and had a gift for nursing sick animals back to health and was always happy to provide animal care advice to others. She enjoyed rides in the country and going out with her fiancé, Bob. She loved her church family at Cable Community Church.
Donna’s memory will be cherished by her daughter and son-in-law: Deb and Rick Holdsworth of Sherrard; grandchildren: Bill and Brenda Holdsworth and their children: Ethan and Elyse, Rebecca and John Cope, and Michael and Sara Holdsworth and their children: Lena and Ivy Mae; a sister: Shirley Hajostek of Sherrard; and a sister-in-law:, Diane Swanson of Moline.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; son: Darrell Inman; fiancé: Bob Schnoebelen; and siblings: Grace Yount, Millie Mital, Marilyn Harlander, Robert Craft, and an infant brother.
