The City of Aledo has received questions about its policy for the use of face
coverings in the City’s public buildings. The City’s policy on face coverings is dictated by
the directive of Governor J.B. Pritzker in the order issued August 26, 2021 (Executive
Order 2021-20). This Executive Order is legally binding on the City until it is revoked,
superseded by legislation, or declared invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction over
Mercer County, Illinois. In accordance with the Executive Order, the City of Aledo requires
face coverings to be worn by all individuals who are age two or over and able to medically
tolerate a face covering (a mask or cloth face covering) in all public buildings, including
City Hall. City employees may remove their face coverings while alone in an enclosed
office. All City staff have been instructed to request that persons entering public buildings
such as City Hall wear a face covering. Anyone who is unable to medically tolerate a face
covering should be prepared to present documentation to support that determination to
City officials. This policy shall remain in effect throughout the period covered by Executive
Order 2021-20.
