Charles ‘Charlie’ E. Wood – Services 4/15/23

Charles “Charlie” E. Wood, 94 of Reynolds, died Monday, March 20, 2023, at home surrounded by family.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 15, at the Hamlet Perryton Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at church. Following the memorial service, the family invites everyone to stay and join them for lunch, where further stories and memories may be shared. A private inurnment will take place at Hamlet Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in care of Hamlet Cemetery. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Reynolds, is assisting the family.

Charlie was born in Mercer County, Illinois on July 4, 1928, a son of Clyde and Edna Pollock Wood. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1945. Charlie married Eileen DeBord on August 14, 1949, at the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death in 1989.

Charlie was a lifelong livestock and grain farmer who started in 1949. In 1973, he established Charlie’s Tax Service, which he ran out of his home.

Charlie was a member of Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church where he served in many ways. He was a boy scout leader and Edgington Township Assessor and sat on boards for the Reynolds Telephone Company and Hamlet Cemetery. Charlie was recognized for his many years of dedicated service to the Reynolds High School Alumni.

Survivors include his daughters, Marcia (Robert) Winter and Jeanne (Gary) Kovanda; grandchildren, Jill Winter, Sarah (Sean) Liddell, Todd (Courtney) Winter, Daniel Winter, Gregory (Cerena) Kovanda, and Stephanie (Randy) Layman; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Steven Mathews; brother, John Wood; and sisters, Waneta Miller, Dorothy Johnson, Mary Close, and Martha Moffitt.
