Catherine L. “Katy” Olson, 71 of Alexis, Illinois, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Visitation is 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday, March 5, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Funeral services are 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 6, at Dennison Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Memorials may be left for University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Catherine “Katy” was born April 25, 1951 in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of William James and Ann L. Olson Henry. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1969. On January 6, 1973, she married Larry Olson, who survives – just barely. Katy worked at the DMV (Illinois Secretary of State Office) in Aledo for 19 years, many of those as manager…she retired in November 2020. Katy had served as Mercer County Democrat Party Chairwoman, and was very active for years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Katy enjoyed the river and fishing.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Larry Olson; daughters: Krissy Olson and Anne Margaret (James) Cavanaugh; son: Joseph (Kathy) Olson; grandchildren: Robert, Nicky, Emily, Carlie Jo, Gracie, Isabelle, and Thomas; great grandchildren: Marley, Jack, and Luna; sisters: Rita Marks and JoAnne Barnard (Howie Irick); brother: Danny (Maxine) Henry; brothers-in-law: Ted (Connie) Olson and Roger (Alicia) Olson; many nieces and nephews; and best friend: Kay King.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Nick Henry; sisters: Patsy Johnson and Lorraine Shaughnessy; and great grandson: Isaiah.
