Sherrard senior Rylan Carton was named honorable mention all-state for 2A boys basketball by the Associated Press (AP) Monday.
Carton led the Tigers (30-4) to the program’s first regional championship in 19 years by scoring a school-record 45 points in a 75-64 win over Orion on Feb. 28. He followed that up with 33 points and a buzzer-beater in the sectional semifinal to defeat Tri-Valley 65-63 in overtime on March 5 to advance to the Sweet 16.
Carton averaged 20.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He scored a single-season record of 702 points for Sherrard in 2024-25.
The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) selected Carton as a second-team all-stater last month.
