Betty L. Skinner – Services 5/28/22

Betty L. Skinner, 84 of Aledo, formerly of Viola, died on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Brookstone Assisted Living, Aledo. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, with visitation one hour prior to services at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Brookstone Assisted Living or the Viola United Methodist Church.

Betty Lou was born on November 16, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Marvin W. and Irma (Wulff) Goldsmith. She married David W. Skinner on September 22, 1957, in Clarence, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2006.

Betty was a homemaker and full-time mother. After the children were grown, she worked part time at Morrison’s Greenhouse in Aledo. Her special gift and green thumb loved to rescue flowers by bringing them home and planting them in her own garden. She and her husband, Dave, loved to dance and were especially talented with the jitterbug. Road trips and site seeing was a favorite pastime as well. She was a member of the Mercer County Home Extension and the United Methodist Church. Betty’s family and friends will miss her spunky personality and her quick wit.

Betty is survived by her children and spouses: Bob Skinner of Berwick, Joni and Rock Caldwell of Viola, Julie and Eric Hamilton of Dodgeville, WI, and Jill and Mike DeSchepper of Viola; siblings and spouses: Jerry and Wendy Goldsmith of Clarence and Sally and Gary Mohr of Ames, Iowa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Marjorie and Bill Staker of Aledo; grandchildren and spouses: Paige Skinner, Samantha and Richie Auby, Brittany Bollinger, Briley and Zach Birkey, Brennen and Madison Bollinger, McKara and Taylor Humphrey, Carson Caldwell, Joel and Rachel Hamilton, Lane Hamilton, Emma DeSchepper, and Ellie DeSchepper; and great-grandchildren: Creighton, Maddon, Scotlyn, Shea, and Della. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
