Former Mercer County head baseball coach Nick Basala has been hired as an assistant coach at Sherrard High School, joining Brandon Oelmann’s staff. The action was taken this week by the Sherrard School Board. Basala is a Sherrard grad and coached for nine seasons at Mercer County, resigning following the 2018 season. Basala’s tenure included Lincoln Trail Conference titles in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 as well as IHSA regional titles in 2013, 2016 and 2017 and a sectional final appearance in 2017. He also the coaches the Milan Legion team.
