Local farmers continue to stock local food pantries. The Bushels for Hunger campaign involves producers from Mercer, Rock Island, and Henry counties. The program this year has generated $23,603 for the River Bend Food Bank. Mercer County farmer Jeff Kirwan is a participant.
The Bushels for Hunger program is a collaboration between the Mercer, Rock Island, and Henry County Farm Bureaus along with area grain elevators and ethanol plants—Atkinson Grain, Big River Resources, Cargill, CHS, Gavilon, Gold Star FS, Hillsdale Elevator, River Valley Cooperative, and Rumbold & Kuhn.
