All Aboard! Western Illinois Model Train Club Welcomes New Members In Viola

Model train enthusiasts have an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals at the Western Illinois Model Train Club. The club is located in the former Viola Library. The space is filled with intricate track setups and showcases the club’s dedication to the art of model railroading.

Club member Allen Holdsworth says the club is open to expanding.

“So it’s a very large model train club. The room we’re in is 24 foot by 80, and it’s basically full. And there’s six of us in the club. We’re probably looking for another couple members, if anybody’s interested in coming and looking at it. And we’re down here Monday and Thursday every week from two to four working on the club. So if anybody wants to stop by in the daytime. And we also have a phone number on the door if somebody wants to come another time. We’ve had 4-H clubs come and other things and stuff. So yeah, we enjoy model railroading.”

Visitors can marvel at the expansive layouts, which include countless feet of laid track. While the exact number of “miles” of track remains unknown, Holdsworth emphasized that train lovers of all ages would find the experience worthwhile.
