Alberta E. ‘Bertie’ Campbell – Services 5/11/22

Alberta E. “Bertie” Campbell, 98 of Keithsburg, IL, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her home. Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, at Keithsburg Christian Church. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate. Toby Scribner will be the soloist. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Casket bearers will be Tim Shoemaker, Sr., Earl Brown, Jr., Don BuBy Tippie, Barry Heath, William Pinger, Jr., and Steve Howard. Honorary bearers will be Kenneth Tharp, Clarence Howard, Tab Balmer, Douglas Bruce, Jeff Smith, and Charlie Brown. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at the church. Memorials may be left to Keithsburg Christian Church and Keithsburg Fire Department. Alberta Ellen Tompkins was born March 16, 1924, in Burlington, IA, the daughter of Albert Jackson and Charlotte Long Tompkins. She married James Campbell in June 2, 1938, in Des Moines, IA.

Bertie was a dog lover, enjoyed watching birds and loved her grandkids. She was known by many as the best hugger in Keithsburg.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her children, Steve Campbell of Keithsburg, William (Diann) Campbell of Keithsburg, Daniel (Barb) Campbell of Hannibal, MO, Jamie (Ted) Greer of Joy, IL, Sue (Rolf) Mitchell of Squim, WA, and Elsie Stotler of Keithsburg; daughters-in-law, Carolyn Campbell of Little York, IL, Erma Doss of Keithsburg, and Albert (Mary) Hays of Hannibal; one sister, Audrey (Ben) Benischek of New Boston; one brother, Lloyd Tompkins of Keithsburg; two step-sisters, Lucy Trafford of IN and Francis Dehm of OK; 26 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; and 28 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sisters, Deanon Lilly, Imogene Tompkins, and Anna Munson; brother, Jack; son, David R. Campbell; an infant son, Jimmy; grandson, David L. “Chip” Campbell; and granddaughter, Gwendolyn Greer.
