Viola Man Facing Felony Sex Abuse Charges Waives Jury Trial Scheduled For This Week, Bench Trial Set For July

A Viola man facing two felony sexual abuse counts will now have a bench trial next month.

33-year-old Gregory Wilson was originally scheduled to have a jury trial begin Monday, but during a court appearance on Monday, he waived his right to a jury trial, and the matter is now set for a bench trial on July 28.

Wilson was arrested in September 2024 following an investigation by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. He’s charged with two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Wilson was originally granted pretrial release with home detention in 2024, but was taken into custody in August 2025 after the prosecution filed a petition to revoke his pretrial release. He’s currently in custody at the Mercer County Jail.
