Martin was born on December 27, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, to Paul and Marjorie (Crose) Bloomfield. He married Johanna Hull on June 13, 1965, at the Viola United Methodist Church.
Martin retired from Sherrard School District, where he had been custodian at the high school for many years. In his spare time, he loved to go fishing and camping with all the Schrock family at Carlyle Lake. Martin was already planning his garden for this year, as he loved to tend his vegetable plants. In earlier years, he and Johanna took the wood items he made to crafts shows all over the region. He enjoyed making tables, shelves, and benches.
Martin is survived by his wife, Johanna; children and spouses, Jody and Greg Brumberg and Terry and Julie Bloomfield; grandchildren, Crystal Nesbitt, Jensen and Alex Andringa, Taryn Bloomfield, and Camryn Bloomfield; great-grandchild, Ezra Andringa; and a brother, John Bloomfield. He is also survived by many stepbrothers and stepsisters in the Joe Schrock family.
