New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District Voters To Decide On Ambulance Tax This Month

Voters in the New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District will decide on a proposed ambulance tax that aims to bring back an ambulance service to the district later this month.

On the March 17 primary ballot, voters in the New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District will be asked if the district shall levy a special tax rate not to exceed 0.40% of the value of all taxable property within the district for the purpose of providing an ambulance service.

The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service ceased operations last July due to a lack of staff. The New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District is currently served by Elite EMS, which is dispatched out of Aledo.

New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District Chief Michael DeFrieze explains what’s on the ballot.

DeFrieze says there are currently 12 people enrolled in an EMT class who have indicated they would help serve in the district if the vote is passed.
