Rockridge rolled Illini West in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A playoffs on Saturday, winning at home 56-12.
The Rockets (10-0) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game on a 27-yard TD run by Thomas Sowards. Tanner Dye found the endzone from 31 yards out in the final minute of the opening period to extend the Rockets’ lead to 14-0 entering the second quarter.
Cullen Schwigen added a 17-yard TD run with 10:25 play in the second quarter, and Sowards punched in a 9-yard scamper with 6:16 left in the first half, which gave Rockridge a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Sowards added three more TD runs, and Schwigen rushed for an 18-yard score in the second half for Rockridge.
Sowards finished with 166 yards and five TDs on 12 carries. Dye added 144 yards and a score, while Schwigen racked up 135 yards on the ground and two TDs. Rockridge rushed for 490 yards in the win and outgained Illini West in total yardage, 584-62. Rockridge dominated the first down statistic with a 26-1 differential.
Illini West (5-5) sophomore Caleb Schreake scored both touchdowns for the Chargers on an 88-yard kickoff return and a 57-yard interception return.
Rockridge advances to play at Tri-Valley (8-2) in the second round next week. The Vikings beat Richards 44-0 on Saturday.
