Aledo Man Sentenced To 75 Years In Prison In Child Sex Assault Case

An Aledo man convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.

48-year-old Michael Downey pleaded guilty to a Class X felony of predatory criminal sexual assault, two Class X felonies of predatory criminal sexual abuse, and four Class 1 felonies of criminal sexual abuse in June.

In Mercer County Circuit Court on Monday, Judge Matthew Durbin sentenced Downey to 25 years in prison on each of the Class X felony counts, which will be served consecutively. The Class 1 felony counts each carried a sentence of four years, which will be served concurrently with the other sentences in the case.

The conviction requires him to register as a sex offender for life.

Downey was arrested last December following an investigation by the Aledo Police Department. The case involved two underage children.
