Local U.S. Rep. Sorensen Lands $1.1 Million In Drug Treatment Center Funding

U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen

A local Illinois lawmaker wants to help address drug addiction across his District.

To do so, Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-Illinois) recently announced $1.1 million in federal funding to Chestnut Health Systems.

The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support a center that focuses on research related to drug treatment and recovery services.

The grant will also provide research projects studying barriers that individuals in the criminal justice system face in accessing drug treatment.

Sorensen represents Illinois’ 17th District, which includes eastern Mercer County.
