Groundbreaking For New Rockridge Elementary School Construction Next Week

The Rockridge School District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its new elementary school next week.

The ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the Homecoming Parade on Thursday evening. The groundbreaking will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. just south of the main gym at Rockridge High School.

Voters in the Rockridge School District overwhelmingly approved the project last November, which will construct a brand-new centralized elementary school in Edgington, just south of the existing Junior/Senior High School. It will house the district’s pre-K through fifth-grade students.

Rockridge School District Superintendent Marcus  Bush says the new building will provide students in the district with a better learning experience.

The district is planning for the new elementary school to open in the 2027-28 school year. Rockridge currently has elementary school locations in Andalusia, Illinois City and Taylor Ridge.

The project will also add air conditioning in the Junior/Senior High School.
