Svea Mutual Insurance Company, headquartered in Orion and one of Illinois’ longest-standing farm mutuals, has honored former WRMJ owner John Hoscheidt with the title of “Director Emeritus.”
The recognition was announced at a recent meeting of the company’s Board of Directors. Hoscheidt served on the board from 1995 through 2024, including the last two years as Vice President. His nearly three decades of leadership and dedication were acknowledged with this honorary designation, which celebrates his longstanding commitment to the organization and the community it serves.
Founded in 1865, Svea Mutual Insurance has deep roots in Illinois agriculture and rural protection. The company praised Hoscheidt’s years of guidance and support, noting that his contributions helped shape the company’s direction during a period of significant change and growth.
In addition to his service with Svea Mutual, Hoscheidt was inducted into the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s Broadcast Pioneer Hall of Fame in 2024. He recently retired as the owner and General Manager of WRMJ, one of the Midwest’s most successful small-market radio stations, where he served as GM since he helped put the station on the air 45 years ago in June of 1979. John and his wife, JoAnn, had been the sole owners since 1993. He’s worn multiple hats throughout his broadcasting career from sales manager to sports and news broadcaster and even commercial production, but he might be best known by listeners across the state as the long-time voice of Aledo and Mercer County football thanks to the excitement he showed during high school football broadcasts.
The board and staff extended their gratitude to Hoscheidt for his service, officially recognizing him as “Director Emeritus” for his outstanding and lasting impact.
