Rylan Carton poured in 45 points to lead Sherrard (29-3) to the school’s first boys basketball regional championship since 2006 in a 75-64 win over Orion (25-8) in Aledo Friday.
Sherrard’s biggest lead was 18 points, 40-22 in the third quarter after the Tigers held a 37-22 halftime lead.
Carter Brown scored 12 points for Sherrard in the win. James Blackwell added 10.
Kyler Owens paced Orion with 25 points.
Sherrard advances to play Tri-Valley (26-6) in the semifinal round of the IHSA 2A Sherrard Sectional Wednesday night. The Vikings beat Bloomington Central Catholic (22-12) 40-39 Friday.
