Monmouth-Roseville (23-11) fell just short of springing an upset of No. 7 Deer Creek-Mackinaw (31-3) in the semifinals of the 2A Deer Creek-Mackinaw Sectional, falling 41-38 Tuesday.
The Titans led 14-13 at halftime and maintained a 28-27 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Chiefs outscored Monmouth-Roseville 14-10 in the fourth. The Titans missed a desperation three-point attempt as time expired.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw will play defending 2A state champion No. 2 Peoria Notre Dame (30-4) in the sectional championship Thursday. The Irish crushed Bloomington Central Catholic (24-9) 65-28 in the second semifinal Tuesday.
