The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service is facing a critical staffing shortage that could lead to delays in response times and greater costs for residents. The service currently has only three EMTs who respond to almost 100 calls a year, though officials with the service say at least eight EMTs are needed to ensure timely emergency service. Adding to their challenge is the increasing age of the local population. The service hopes to schedule a new training program in the spring for anyone interested in becoming an EMT.
