Five local wrestlers qualified for the IHSA State Finals with strong performances at their respective individual sectionals Saturday.
At the 1A Oregon Boys Wrestling Sectional, Rockridge senior Jude Finch won the sectional championship at 138 pounds. Oron’s Maddux Anderson took 3rd place at 190 pounds to advance.
Mercer County had two competitors move on to the state meet from the 1A Clinton Sectional – Bodie Salmon (2nd place, 190 pounds) and Eli Burns (3rd place, 165 pounds).
In girls wrestling, Sherrard’s Nadia Anderson took fourth at 135 pounds at the Geneseo Sectional to advance.
The IHSA Boys Wrestling State Finals are Thursday, Feb. 20-Saturday, Feb. 22 at State Farm Center in Champaign. The IHSA Girls Wrestling State Finals are Friday, Feb. 28-Saturday, March 1 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
