Marie Pearl Swanson, 94 of Preemption, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Avonlea Cottage of Quad Cities in Milan, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 30, at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Friday, January 31, at Fippinger Funeral Home. Interment will be at Edgington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Fur-Ever Friends for Mercer County. Marie was born in Coal Valley, Illinois, on January 21, 1931, to Harry and Grace (Hollowell) Petty. She married William “John” Swanson on June 18, 1955, in Taylor Ridge, Illinois. Marie was a member of the Preemption United Methodist Church. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Those left to cherish Marie’s memory include one son, Wes Swanson of Preemption; one daughter, Lisa Swanson of Milan; two grandchildren, Timothy (Shasta) Schrock of Moline, Illinois, and Sarah Anne (Brett) Lippold of Stanwood, Washington; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Petty of Milan, Harvey Petty of Goodfield, Illinois, and Jerry Petty of Rock Island, Illinois; one sister, Trudy Amidon of Milan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one sister, Dorothy Fox.
