Mercer County High School boys basketball coach Tim Sedam was named an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) District Coach of the Year, the association announced Tuesday.
In his fifth season leading the program, Sedam guided Mercer County to a program-record 26 wins. The Golden Eagles won the Lincoln Trail Conference regular season and tournament championships for the second year in a row. Between January and February, Mercer County won 17 consecutive games, before the winning streak was snapped in a regional championship game loss to Rockridge, 43-40, in overtime.
Sedam earned the honor in the IBCA’s Class 2A District 11, along with Riverdale boys basketball coach Alex Kelly.
