Sandra J. Matthew, 82 of Aledo, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. The memorial service will directly follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with graveside services following at the Aledo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the VFW Post 1571. Sandra was born September 10, 1941, to Ralph and Ruth Brownlee Hill in Aledo, Illinois. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1959. She married Craig David Miller on April 9, 1959, in Viola, Illinois, and would later marry Robert G. Matthews July 17, 1962, in Decatur, Illinois. Robert passed away on October 10, 1990.
Along being a homemaker, Sandra also held several jobs in the Decatur area, including tending bar for twenty years at the El Dorado, eight years working at the Eisner Grocery Store, and two years at the Lays Potato Chip factory.
Sandra loved her family and had many friends. She was known by her family as a social butterfly; always in-the-know about the comings and goings of fellow residents at Mercer Manor.
Sandra is survived by two sons, Vince (Julie) Miller of Columbia, Missouri, and Tony (Patty) Matthews of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Sean Miller, Stephen (Allison) Miller, Kendra Olson, and Skylar Miller; step-grandchildren, Joel (Erin) Whitworth, Jonathan (Joyce) Whitworth, and Jillian Whitworth; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Darla (Bill) Brown of Aledo; sister-in-law, Barb Hill of Aledo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ruth Hill; husband, Robert Matthews; son, Mike Matthews; sister, Rita Haizlip; and brother, Ralph Hill, Jr.
