Mary Ann was born on September 2, 1955, the daughter of Sylvester and Juanita (Johnson) McKinney. She worked as a social worker for the Youth Service Bureau.

Mary Ann loved all things spooky. She was a year-round Halloween enthusiast, passionate reader of Stephen King, and enjoyed many horror flicks. She had the heart of an adventurer and traveled around the world sending friends postcards with warm greetings and reminding them it’s never too late to spread your wings. Whether it was jumping into the car and zipping into the cities, or taking in the greatness of Alaska, Mary Ann let the world know she was a force of nature.

Her generosity was shown to friends through knit blankets, friendly letters, the occasional Von Maur gift, and numerous care packages or two. She often left people wondering if the world ever knew the likes of her before. In the end, there’s really no one like Mary Ann. She achieved what many strive to do, she showed the world it’s ok to be yourself.

Mary Ann is survived by many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Linda and Penny.
