Rockridge (24-6) and Mercer County (26-6) will play in the championship of the IHSA 2A Monmouth-Roseville Regional after both teams picked up semifinal wins Wednesday.
The Rockets defeated Monmouth-Roseville (15-18), 48-33. Rockridge led by four at halftime, 20-16, but outscored the Titans 19-7 in the third quarter to pull away. Landon Bull led Rockridge with 15 points. Nico Avendano scored a game-high 19 points for the Monmouth-Roseville.
Mercer County beat Orion (17-14), 69-56. The Golden Eagles opened the game on a 10-0 run and never trailed. Orion tied the game once, 18-18. Colby Cox led Mercer County with 20 points. Lucas Collison, 16 points, and Jude Hofmann, 13 points, were also in double figures for the Golden Eagles. Orion’s Kyler Owens scored a game-high 26 points in the loss.
Sherrard (22-7) advanced to a regional championship game for the second year in a row by beating Kewanee (22-9), 55-45, in Farmington Wednesday. The Tigers scored the first 10 points of the game and led by as many as 15 points in the first half, 19-4. Kewanee cut the deficit to 25-22 at halftime and briefly took a three point lead in the third quarter. Holland Anderson scored 19 points for Sherrard. Rylan Carton added 17 points for the Tigers. Kewanee’s Brady Clark led all scorers with 23 points in the loss.
Sherrard will play Macomb (25-5) for the regional championship Friday in Farmington. The Bombers beat Farmington (15-14), 59-48, Wednesday.
