The Mercer County unemployment rate is at 5.9 percent. The number is for March and represents a nearly two-percent improvement from the same period a year ago. Unemployment is also down from year over year levels in Rock Island, Warren, Henry, Knox and Henderson Counties mainly due to employment gains in the Educational-Health Services, Professional-Business Services, Government, and Financial Activities sectors. The statewide unemployment rate is 4.7 percent with the national rate at 4.6 percent. The highest unemployment rate in the region is 7.0 percent in Stark County.
