Mercer Unemployment Rate Below Statewide Average

The Mercer County unemployment rate at 4.0 percent. The number is for May and compares to last year’s figure at this time, according to data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Unemployment is also steady comparing year over year data in Henderson, Henry, Knox, Rock Island, and Warren Counties.
In the region, total nonfarm employment increased by 7,400 compared to May 2021.

Leisure-Hospitality (+3,100), Manufacturing (+1,600), Professional-Business Services (+1,500), and Retail Trade (+800) had the largest payroll gains over the year. The Educational-Health Services (-200) sector recorded employment declines over the year. The statewide unemployment rate is 4.5 percent.
