Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announcing Monday that current COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place for the coming weeks in anticipation of a possible post-Thanksgiving surge. The number of new cases statewide has been declining over the last few days, but that trend may not hold. Pritzker says even if an area meets the metrics to ease up on mitigations, that won’t be allowed for a while.
The Governor says he spoke to Dr. Anthony Fauci, who agreed that now is not the time to pull back on any of the current restrictions.
When the Governor announced the Tier 3 mitigations on Nov. 20, the IHSA announced they were pausing all winter sports and activities. The IHSA board is meeting Wednesday (Dec. 2) and again Dec. 14 to discuss the status of winter high school sports.
