Only three Mercer County Board candidates have filed paperwork to run in the March 17th primary. Monday was the deadline to file nominating petitions. Republican Josh Frieden of New Boston is running in District 4, Republican Linda Koepke of Sherrard is running in District 3, and Republican Rebecca Hawn of Keithsburg is running in District 1. Not one Democrat has filed to run in the March primary for a county board seat. Next November, single county board seats will be elected in District 1, District 2, District 4, and District 5, with two seats being elected in District 3.
As far as countywide positions in the March primary, there is a contested race for the Republican nomination for coroner with incumbent Greg Larson of Sherrard being challenged by Gary Lucas of Aledo.
Also filing for the March primary are Democratic incumbent State’s Attorney Meeghan Lee of Aledo and Republican challenger Grace Simpson of Alexis. And Democratic incumbent Circuit Clerk Kristin Relander of Aledo has also filed for the March 17th primary.
