The theft case against the former treasurer of the Matherville Fire Department has been pushed to next year. 29 year old Stephanie Nass appeared in Mercer County Circuit Court this morning and her attorney asked for a continuance with a pre-trial conference now scheduled for Jan. 6. She faces a Class 1 felony, accusing her of “knowingly obtaining by deception, control over property of the Matherville Fire Department, being cash, having a total value in excess of $10,000, but less than $100,000 in that she used the property knowing such use would probably deprive the owner permanently of such use or benefit.” Nass has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The alleged theft occurred between May of 2018 and August of 2019. Class 1 felonies are punishable by a minimum of probation up to 4-to-15 years in prison upon conviction.
