Sherrard School District Bringing Back School Resource Officer

The Sherrard School District bringing back a school resource officer. The school board unanimously approved a $30,000 agreement last night with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department. The officer is trained to perform three roles: law enforcement; law-related counselor; and law-related education teacher.  Additionally, the position is trained in response to crisis situations and acts as a comprehensive resource for the school as well as serving as a liaison between the schools and the sheriff’s department. Sherrard previously utilized a school resource officer, but the position was a victim of budget cuts in 2013.
