A 2014 tax objection complaint is winding its way through Mercer County Circuit Court. The owners of Fyre Lake Golf Course allege their assessments are excessive and they’re asking the court to refund any taxes deemed incorrect. The course’s tax bill was just over $200,000 in 2014. Among the taxing bodies impacted would be the County of Mercer, Sherrard School District, Sherrard Fire District, Village of Sherrard and Richland Grove Township. Mercer County State’s Attorney Meeghan Lee is defending the case for Mercer County. She tells WRMJ that a status hearing is set for June 8th as possible remedies are being discussed.
