WRMJ’s Senior Spotlight continues today with Sherrard High School senior Quinn DeLoose. Quinn has spent her four years at Sherrard making a positive impact both in the classroom and out in the community.
A four-year varsity player for the Sherrard girls soccer team, Quinn has seen her team grow and evolve—most recently participating in a co-op with Cambridge. “It’s just been a great experience. The team is basically a second family,” she said. “The girls are great, and the coaches are amazing too.”
Beyond athletics, Quinn has been an active member of her class senate each year and joined the National Honor Society during her junior and senior years. NHS requires 20 volunteer hours per semester, and Quinn embraced that challenge. Her favorite opportunity was the Wonderful Wednesday meal service at the Preemption Methodist Church. “We prepare and serve to-go meals, free to the community, all through donations,” she said. “It’s a great way to help people and get involved.”
Looking ahead, Quinn plans to attend Black Hawk College to complete her prerequisites before transferring to Carl Sandburg College to become a dental hygienist. She hopes to return to the area to work in the Aledo or Moline region.
When asked about her favorite teacher, Quinn didn’t hesitate. “I’m definitely going to miss Mr. Ruggles the most,” she said. “He’s a funny guy, a great teacher, and he’s taught me to be more confident in myself. He’s tough, but that’s what makes you better.”
And yes—Mr. Ruggles, a former WRMJ employee, still shares memories of his time at the station. “He has a WRMJ magnet in his classroom and always tells us to cherish every moment.”
