2025 Senior Spotlight – Lexi Willis, Sherrard High School

Presented by State Representative Dan Swanson and Hamlet Mutual Insurance.

The WRMJ Senior Spotlight continues, and today we shine the light on Sherrard High School senior and Class of 2025 graduate Lexi Willis—an aspiring educator with a passion for positivity.

Lexi says her experience at Sherrard has been shaped by a warm and welcoming school environment.

“I don’t really have specific memories,” she said, “but I just like how friendly all the teachers are here. I can go through the hallway and they’ll all say hi to me and ask how my day is. It’s just a really friendly environment.”

That supportive atmosphere helped Lexi discover a new direction this year. After initially considering exercise science, an early childhood education class sparked her interest in teaching.

“Every Friday we would go to the grade school and help out in a first grade class,” she said. “And for Halloween and Christmas we got to stay all day and do their parties with them. It was just so fun—I loved seeing how excited the kids were every time we came in.”

Outside the classroom, Lexi has been a proud member of the cheerleading team—a dream she’s had since childhood.

“Ever since I was little, I always wanted to be a cheerleader,” she said. “I loved going to cheer camps and seeing how they cheered at the games. It was about bringing the positives and getting everyone involved.”

Cheering taught her more than just routines.

“I became more confident, made great friendships, and learned how to bring the community together,” she said.

That sense of togetherness is something Lexi truly values about the Sherrard school district.

“Even though it’s a small school, everyone gets along really well. I love how during homecoming week the whole community comes together—the parade, the classes, all of it.”

As Lexi graduates and sets her sights on becoming an elementary teacher, she leaves behind a legacy of spirit, kindness, and connection.

Congratulations to Lexi Willis, and to the entire Sherrard Class of 2025!
