WRMJ Audio: Nearly 50-Years Later; But 1971 Small School Baseball Team Remains Great Illinois Story With Great Characters

WRMJ Sports Director Jim Taylor spoke with author Chris Ballard Tuesday morning. He wrote the book “One Shot at Forever: A Small Town, an Unlikely Coach, and a Magical Baseball Season”. It details the improbable run of small town Macon High School in 1971, advancing all the way to the state championship game in a one-class system. The squad was led by an English teacher with no coaching experience. Next summer marks the 50 year anniversary of the story.
